INTRODUCTION

The Department of Refrigeration and Air conditioning Engineering at Korea Nepal Institute of Technology (KNIT), Butwal-12, Tamnagar, Rupandehi (Nepal), is one of the most prestigious departments of learning in the field of Refrigeration and Air conditioning engineering in Nepal. The Department aspires that its students be better prepared to handle modern-life challenges therefore it is continuously striving to improve quality of education and research.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology Diploma program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the Refrigeration and air conditioning industry. Learning opportunities develop academic, occupational, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of air conditioning theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology diploma and have the qualification of an air conditioning technician.

The work of a Refrigeration and Air conditioning engineer breaks down into three categories:

Design
  • Designing new products and improving existing ones
Research and Development
  • Finding solutions to engineering problems
Production
  • Planning and designing new production processes

Programme Educational Objectives

In support of the objectives of the Refrigeration and Air conditioning Engineering major will prepare our students to be proficient at putting theory into practice, capable of lifelong learning, and be aware of the social, ethical, and environmental issues associated with their professional activities. To ensure these goals, our specific expected accomplishments of our diploma courses during the three several years following graduation for the major are:

  1. To produce middle level component technical work force / human resource (Technical and supervisory staffs) in Refrigeration and Air conditioning Engineering with fuscous in the following area.
    • Refrigeration equipment and system installation
    • Repair and maintenance of refrigeration components
    • Air conditioning system installation
    • Repair and maintenance of air conditioning component
    • Surveying buildings where cooling systems are to be fitted
    • discussing requirements with customers
    • producing quotes for work
    • designing and installing systems
    • running quality checks to make sure systems are working properly and safely
    • diagnosing and fixing faults
    • carrying out planned maintenance
    • To train the students to become a professional sub-engineer with excellent communication skills capable of meeting the present and future requirements of the industry and the society.
    • To develop a culture that promotes individual and team work for carrying out innovative projects, assignments and research work in engineering sciences.
    • To excel in their professional career in refrigeration and air conditioning industry and research with highest professional and ethical standards to their activities by acquiring knowledge in basic engineering, mathematics, science and refrigeration and air conditioning engineering.

As a refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) engineer, your work could cover one of two broad areas:

1. Refrigeration

installing and servicing the systems that control air quality, temperature and humidity inside offices, schools, leisure complexes and other modern buildings.
