INTRODUCTION

Automobile engineering is a branch of automotive engineering, incorporating elements of mechanical, electrical, electronic, software and safety engineering as applied to the design, manufacture and operation of motorcycles, automobiles and trucks and their respective engineering subsystems.

It also includes modification of vehicles. Manufacturing domain deals with the creation and assembling the whole parts of automobiles is also included in it. The automotive engineering field is research -intensive and involves direct application of mathematical models and formulas. The study of automotive engineering is to design, develop, fabricate, and testing vehicles or vehicle components from the concept stage to production stage.

Automotive engineering is one of the most exciting professions you can choose. From the global concerns of sustainable mobility, and teaching cars to drive themselves, to working out how we’ll get around on the surface of Mars, automotive engineering is all about the future.

The challenges facing personal mobility are endless. Automotive engineers work in every area of the industry, from the look and feel of current cars, to the safety and security of new forms of transport. Attempting to make cars as fast as possible whilst keeping them fuel efficient may seem like an impossible task, but this is the kind of problem automotive engineer deal with every day. The work of an automotive engineer breaks down into three categories:

Design
Designing new products and improving existing ones.
Research and Development
Finding solutions to engineering problems
Production
Planning and designing new production processes

One of the first steps in becoming an automotive engineer is going to university. Department of Automobile Engineering was started in the year 2012 at KNIT and is offering a three-year course in Diploma in Automobile Engineering. This Department is equipped with the best of resources to enrich the bloodline of the department ensuring high quality education to the students. The young and vibrant faculty is the backbone of the department. All of them are highly qualified and well experienced. The state-of-the-art Laboratories, the well-balanced curriculum and the faculty with iron-resolve address the cognitive capacities as well as practical hands on workshop experience of students in fulfilling the ever more pressing needs of the industry.

Programme Educational Objectives

Training and Placement

Automobile Engineering Department is CTEVT accredited, and has an intake of 48 students. Present overall strength is around 160 and the current faculty strength is 9. A library has been set up with a lot of useful personality development books. The department has talented students with both technical and soft skill sets. Their academic performance needs a special mention here. More than 40 percentage final year students have a track record of consistent 75 and above percentage with no history of arrears and remaining 60 percentage students with consistent academic performance.

Every year about 80% of our students are recruited as soon as they enter the sixth semester. Some of the companies where our students have secured campus placement include: Ashok Leyland (IME GROUP), Tata Motors (Sipradi), Hyundai (Laxmi InterContinental), Local companies etc. Some are also pursuing higher studies in USA, Australia, and Germany etc.
